It has been there about half a century and reads that way: a low, unfussy, mid-century beach motel that has been refreshed rather than replaced, with outdoor showers, patios, and Jake’s Del Mar and Poseidon a few steps along the sand. Del Mar village, with its restaurants and shops, is a short walk up the hill; the racetrack and fairgrounds are a couple of minutes north.
From San Diego International the drive is about 22 miles up the I-5, usually 25 to 30 minutes, rather more on a Del Mar race day or through summer beach traffic. Coast Boulevard is the thing to know: it is narrow, it runs right along the beach, and parking there is scarce enough that circling for a space with luggage is a genuinely bad start to a holiday.
