About Kona Kai Resort
The marina is the headline: 518 slips taking boats from thirty to two hundred feet, and the closest berth to open ocean of anywhere in San Diego Bay, which is why sportfishers and large yachts base here. The resort also has its own stretch of beach on the bay — calm water rather than surf, which suits families and is rare for a city hotel.
For arrivals this is a short run from the airport, around the harbour and out onto the island. One thing worth checking before you travel: the restaurant does not open every night of the week, so if you are arriving late on a Sunday or Monday, ask the resort what will be available. Shelter Island’s road is a single lane each way and slows during events; otherwise it is straightforward.
